馬克斯‧李希特是當前音樂界最具影響力的人物之一。身為錄音藝術家、作曲家、鋼琴家以及合作夥伴，他創造出許多突破性的音樂作品。這是馬克斯‧李希特第一次出版作品精選輯。43首曲目包括2004年被美國網站評為「記憶中影響力最鉅的當代古典錄音」的《藍色筆記本》；2012年由英國小提琴家霍普與著名的柏林音樂廳室內樂團演出，根據韋瓦第《四季》重新創作的作品；2015年突破性的八小時鉅作《舒眠》，並且收錄先前沒有在《舒眠》中發行的兩首音樂。
  專輯也收錄馬克斯‧李希特為眾多電影與電視譜寫的配樂精選，像是2014年HBO影集《末世餘生》、2017年英國BBC電視迷你影集《禁忌》，以及2018年電影《雙后傳》。為韋恩‧麥奎格芭蕾《Infra》創作的音樂，這裡收錄的是後來改採鋼琴、電子樂器與弦樂四重奏簡單配器擴展後的版本；〈In the Garden〉則是2017年同樣與韋恩‧麥奎格合作的芭蕾《吳爾芙的作品》中第一幕的樂曲。此外，還有在小提琴家希拉蕊‧韓小提琴安可曲計畫中動聽的《慈悲》，以及瑪麗‧薩穆爾森演奏的《十一月》等等。
